Allan RichardtParticipantCan you get an external hand scanner to give a command to start a new entry after scanning a barcodes to a field or is there a key combination on the keyboard that will create a new entry, where you can create a barcode, As such, you can use to start a new entry.
I need to scan barcodes on packages to register (Inbound Track & Trace) incoming packages in our company, on my iPad / iPhone, which can then be used to see if this package has entered the house and delivered to our department.
The fields I need are Track & Trace from the package and a recipient field (Link from Form “Receiver”) and after entering the two fields, Tap Forms will go to a new entry.
Is it possible to do in Tap Forms so it’s quick to register incoming packages, without touching the iPad / iPhone.October 21, 2017 at 11:45 AM #25484
BrendanKeymasterHi Allan,
Unfortunately there’s no function to have Tap Forms automatically add a new record after a barcode is scanned. I’m not familiar with external barcode scanners. Do they have keyboards on them? Does it pair up with your device like an external keyboard? I know there are command keys that an iOS app can accept to do different things. I should look into that to allow Tap Forms to do certain functions like that from the keyboards without having to tap on the device.

Allan RichardtParticipantThanks for your prompt reply.
My external device is a simple hand scanner, pointing to the barcode and pressing like a gun, point and shoot. Its paired with my iPad as a Bluetooth keyboard, but without a keyboard.
I also have a Bluetooth keyboard (Logitech K480) that is also paired with my iPad.
To the hand scanner there are some simple commands such as “inventory mode, upload statistics, and clear”.
Once you have scanned a barcode, the hand scanner will finish sending a return command, thats good, then the cursor jumps to the next field and I can then scan the next barcode for the recipient, this return command can be turned off in the device itself, using a set up command.
While you find out if there is a command key that can be used to start a new entry, my iPad may just get a little dirty :-)November 9, 2017 at 1:42 AM #25828
Sam MoffattParticipantHave you tried using the scanning feature that’s built in and see if that works for you?

Allan RichardtParticipantI have used the internal barcode scanner on the iphone.
And it jumps to the next field, where I can scan the next code.
But it does not start on a new post without pressing the plus button to start a new post.
I have used Tap Forms to register incoming packages, but it will be faster if you can scan only and then go to a new post after scanning the last field in a post.
But it’s faster than writing all the information with the hand when there are about 200 packages, and is alone to receive and distributing the packages at the various departments at the hospital.
Og ens leder ikke vil bruge penge på et Inbound Track and Trace system. -
