    Hi Brendan
Just noticed this. I have the above two fields showing. In many cases records are showing as modified by date, even though I have not touched them. Is this date for the whole form, or for each individual record. If its for each record as I supposed, I wonder why the modified date is changing???
    Help!
    Cheers

It’s for each record, but it will change if you re-sort your records. The reason for that is the sorting of the records needs to be synchronized to the other devices and Tap Forms uses the Date Modified values for the records to determine what to send to your other devices when you tap the upload to iCloud button.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

Thanks, but a pain. I have been using it to review ‘latest changes’ but now, having sorted the records it won’t work!
I guess I will have to go back and use the date field and manually alter all my records. Another case for batch edit methinks!

In fact…. Should not the field name in ‘New Field’ be ‘Date Modified/Sorted’ to show this is the behaviour. I believed that ‘modified’ related to change in data, not sort order which has caused quite a few problems for me!

I will be changing that behaviour in a future update. The reason sorting updates the date modified values is because of some database de-normalization that I did for performance reasons.

tonyt – I discovered this little “sort” annoyance early on and created my own ‘date updated’ field so I could sort for just the changes made on a particular day.

Colleen – thanks, have done that. I’m not sure improvements should alter data without warning. I now have several hundred records that are worthless as the sort has altered the dates I need and I can’t get them back, because if I revert to a backup I loose all the changes made to records since the backup and I can’t even remember which ones have changed!

TonyT – if you really need to recover those dates, I’m wondering if you have another mac or i-devise you could put TapForms on and then import the backup to that devise. It sounds cumbersome, but if you really need them, it might be a solution.

    Hi Colleen
I have a backup I can go to if needed. BUT, can I go to that, export the dates from the ‘Date Modified’ field as a CSV and then import those dates into the new ordinary ‘Date’ field I have created in my forms – I doubt it? By the way, did you see that Brendan says this will be sorted in a future update? But I guess this will not sort my problem. DATA surely must be PROTECTED, yes – I am a little peeved about this!
Sorry Brendan – you do a really good job for us 99.99999% of the time – this one has really caused me problems.
