Cloudant has disconnected both of my devices with TapForms connected to it and is not accepting the password, which I haven’t changed. Rather than spending (more) time investigating why, I’d like to move the database to a CouchDB on my 2024 Synology NAS. I’ve searched high and low for help on how to do this, and can only find a forum post from 2019 with a walkthrough. I tried to follow the steps carefully but could not get it to work. This documentation is outdated, as much has changed in the NAS OS over the past 6 years. My attempts have stumbled at one of the earliest steps of running a container.

I was wondering if there might be more recent documentation or a tutorial I could be directed to.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

    Hi William,

That’s a good question. Maybe Daniel Leu would know about that. I think he uses Tap Forms on a Synology NAS. I’ve only just ran CouchDB on my Mac as a regular Mac app. My Synology NAS died on me a couple years ago and I never replaced it. Just backup to local hard drives now, which reminds me I should make another full backup now.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi Brendan,

My NAS purchase was the opposite action of yours, LOL. It was primarily to end my backing up to numerous local drives. It was getting silly with four backup drives of various shapes and sizes that I was manually connecting. When two failed within weeks of each other, it was a signal that I needed a better solution and invested in the Synology NAS. It’s been an excellent means of centralising and automating my backups for nearly two years. All the other capabilities of a NAS have been icing on the cake. Some of them are incredible, like Plex.

I suspect more and more of the TapForms user base will find themselves with a NAS. I couldn’t think of a better use for a NAS than centralising a database. However, many of us lack the IT expertise to configure it to link with TapForms properly. A tutorial on how to do this in 2025 could be helpful to many. I certainly would very much appreciate it!

    William
