Just for info of anyone using this combination of Hardware + Software.
There is a discussion on the Apple Forum regarding this situation at:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8625162?start=45&tstart=0

I am running the Hardware and iOS set up mentioned and experienced several Apps, including Tap Forms, had been Uninstalled from my Watch 4.
This group of Apps repeatedly fail to re-install. There is at least one App, Dark Sky, that like Tap Forms awaits Installation but it is still capable of issuing weather warnings. These warnings flow frequently from my Watch just like they did when the App was properly installed.
A few Apps remain functional on my Watch and after being Uninstalled they can be re-installed.
This seems to depend upon the timing of recent App Updates.

The discussion mentioned was stumbled across just before I was about to Reset the Watch, apparently the recovery process fails to make any improvements. At least my time was not wasted with Reset and re-installing from Back Up.
Hopefully few Tap Form Users will be affected.

    Hi again

When using the format from the web site it worked perfectly so thanks.

One other query, in one of my databases, to get round Bento’s 5 star rating issue, I used a simple text field for rating and input what I needed as stars and 1/2 if I wanted. So if something was 3.5 stars I would enter ***1/2. Would the script work on that and if it did, could I then change it to a proper ratings field? I’m guessing it won’t because a * is not an integer in this context.

Also, is there an undo for this script or would I need to recover from backup if it went wrong. I have about 420 records in this database so could enter them in a new field manually if necessary but if the script would work, that would be great.

    Many thanks

I appear to have “lost” the built-in forms, and I particularly want a recipes form. How do I recover them?

    Hello Brendan!
After one and a half year of flutend use the last update seems to cause serious trouble.
In my company we use TapForms to manage the Keys and Motorpool. All actions require the user to sign up.
After the last update the following happened:
I created a new record, the employee signs that he has gotten the keys. When i Tap on another record TapForms crashed immediately to the Home screen. I was able to track down that all Forms without signatur are fine. When i romove the Signatur Field the Application Crashes as soon as i try to look into a record.
Recovering a backup was useless. as far as e Hello Brendan!

Recovering a backup was useless. As far as i can See TF has lost all forms. An export dosn´ two properly. It seems that i´ve got now a 300 MD Database that is “empty”.
I can reporduce this behaviour on different iPads or Databases so im quite sure ist got to do with the Signatur Field.
A fix would be highly appreciated. And any assistance to recover the current backup into a useful database again.

    Best regards,
    Alex

There isn’t on the iOS version sorry. You should make a backup file now though.

If you want to send me the backup file I can try to recover the record if you tell me in the email what to look for. But at the moment I’m on a road trip in British Columbia so I won’t really have time to look into it until I get home on Tuesday.

Or if you have a Mac you can download the Mac free trial version and restore your iPhone backup to the Mac version and try the Restore Deleted Items function there to see if it finds the deleted record.

I am using only the iPhone version of TapForms and I just accidentally deleted a record. Is there a way to restore it somehow from the iPhone? I don’t have a backup, and it is syncing to iCloud. I have not optimized the database.

    Please help.

    Thanks,

    Lorenz

    Hello Brendan,

All of sudden I am experiencing disappearing fields in my sync document on my iPhone. The master document on my Mac is OK but on the iPhone some fields, like joined forms type or note field are not visible anymore.

I have disabled iCloud sync erased the document from iCloud, restored from a back up on the mac, re-enaling the sync, but still when the sync completes on the iPhone the same fields are missing.

My DB is not encrypted and I am using the last app store versions both on mac & iPhone.

Would you please help me to recover those fields ?

    Thank you,
    Best regards,
    Laurent

    Hi Gary,

Thanks for your comments about Tap Forms syncing. One of my goals with Tap Forms was never ever to have access to your data. So setting up my own server to host your data that I had full access to was never anything I wanted to be able to do. Even for a subscription fee.

Currently there are 4 different sync services to choose from. The simplest to get going is iCloud sync. Everybody has iCloud and it’s a one button click to enable. But there are of course limitations with it. For you and your wife, you would need to share the same Apple ID for that to work. But I realize it’s not practical to do that for different users. That’s why there’s 3 other services to choose from.

I agree that it’s far too technical a process to get an account setup now with IBM Cloud. It used to be fairly easy with just a username and password that you provide. Now you have to get a username and password from the Service Credentials that IBM gives to you. But I do have step-by-step instructions in the online user manual on how to do that.

I had at one time thought about offering a subscription sync service, but in general people don’t want to have to pay for that. I would also be on the hook for paying thousands of dollars per month to provide a service that I might not be able to recover from. And then I would also have access to all my customer’s data, which is something I never wanted.

I’m also a one-person company. I initially built Tap Forms as an organization app for all the junk I had in my wallet. It has grown exponentially since then based on customer requests and miscellaneous things that I’ve wanted to add to it over the years. So I don’t have the resources or person power to manage a dedicated sync service for customers. That’s why I preferred to allow customers to setup their own accounts with the service that was compatible with the Couchbase Lite database engine that I wrote Tap Forms on top of.

It’s real shitty what IBM did by switching from the relatively simple IBM Cloudant to the more complicate IBM Cloud service. But they’re IBM and I am nobody to them so I had no control over what they did.

Perhaps I’ll work on adding additional ways to sync in future versions.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

Yes, use Time Machine to restore.

Close any opened documents, then on the main Database Documents window, click the document you want to restore and then click the Show in Finder button at the bottom.

Then with that file selected in the Finder, use the Enter Time Machine command from the Time Machine menu in the menubar. Then navigate back in time to a point before this happened and then click the Restore button. Allow the Finder to overwrite the file.

There’s also a Backup command and a Backup on Quit function in Tap Forms which will help to recover from this sort of thing in the future.

If you’re using iCloud for syncing you should also disable that and then click the Delete From iCloud button before you restore. Otherwise the deletions will be synced again. You can re-enable it after you’ve restored.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

Did you click on the Form name to recover? Once you’ve done that, go back in and then select any fields and/or records that may also have been deleted that belong to that form. It’s not a perfect solution either because sometimes the things can’t be recovered. If you compact the database that’ll wipe out the recovery history.

I opened TF on the Mac and a couple of my forms were missing! I went to “Restore deleted items”, and selected each one that was missing and clicked “Recover”. However, the forms do not get recovered.

    Hi Joanna,

The Restore command is enabled when you have the main Database Documents window in the foreground.

I’m glad you found a way to recover your data.

The recovery sort of worked, but some important fields are missing, like name and date, so it was close to useless.

But, I located the last backup, opened it, renamed it and dragged it out of the backups folder into the documents folder. I guess I was lucky, there seems to be only one missing record.

I hope I learned my lesson!

I deleted a form by accident (a brainless moment, I meant to delete and empty record). I found the “recover deleted items command” but it’s taking forever–I clicked recover, that button is now grayed out, but nothing is happening on the right hand side. There are hundreds of records with many fields, it was the Sales Orders. Can I expect it to eventually work? Are there directions somewhere?
    Time Machine was no help.
There’s no “restore” command available–it’s grayed out.
Is there any hope for this?

Also, I can’t find a search box for this forum….

Joanna, the idiot of the day….

It seems to not recover the password stored in the iOS Keychain, so using your password once should solve that problem.
