Allan DriedgerParticipantHappy New Year! I just went to delete a record but accidentally chose delete form. Now my form with over 500 data entry points is lost. All the info is still there but every column has the same title. Any suggestions? Thanks, Al

BrendanKeymasterHi Allan,
There’s no undo delete for a form.
Do you have Time Machine? Can you restore to a previous Time Machine backup of your file?

Allan DriedgerParticipantNo, but I did a Tapforms back up a few days ago. How do I restore to my back up?

BrendanKeymasterIf it’s version 5, then close any opened documents, then with the main Database Documents window in the foreground, select the old document and click the trash can button to put it into the trash. Then use the Restore command in the File menu. Find your backup file when prompted.

Allan DriedgerParticipantThank you Brendan. I have version 5 with latest updates. I did what you suggested and I saw all my old data files and forms when I opened the file. Then about 3 seconds later, it changed all the info in the form columns to numbers and then 2 seconds later, the whole form disappeared again. The title is still at the top of the window but the form does not appear in my forms list on the left. It says “no forms”.
I checked my other Mac but it wiped out all the info when I opened TapForms 5. I have not touched the sync preference info or opened Tapforms on my iPhone yet.
Any other suggestions? Trying to stay calm …
Thanks,

BrendanKeymasterOk, well you do have a backup but what has happened is the deleted form got synced before and therefore when you restored, Cloudant dutifully synced the deletions back to your devices.
So what you’re going to need to do is restore again, but this time you’ll have to delete the database file in Cloudant before you sign-in to Cloudant with Tap Forms again. Tap Forms will then upload all of the data again.
You’ll have to restore the same file to each device though otherwise the devices that have the deleted data will upload to Cloudant and then sync the deletions again.

Allan DriedgerParticipantWorked like a charm. Thanks for savin’ my bacin”! Just left a glowing review on the app store. Thanks again Brendan. Your app and your support is very much appreciated by me and my business.

BrendanKeymasterExcellent! I’m glad that worked for you. I suppose at some point I should have a function within Tap Forms to delete the database on Cloudant for you before doing the restore so you wouldn’t have to login and find the matching database there and delete it yourself.

BrendanKeymasterOh, and thanks for the review! Much appreciated.
