bigcaatParticipantI have purchased Tap Forms. I’m having problems in that it is not importing the addresses from Bento. I’m worried that I might have, some time back when I first was playing with it, denied it access to my address book and that is the reason why. I am considering trashing everything, re-installing and starting from scratch. Is that my best option? If so, can I just trash everything and would it then be available in the App Store to re-install without paying again? Or is there a way to get it to allow access to my contacts if I re-import my Bento Template? I’m really frustrated.
Thanks,

BrendanKeymasterHi Caat,
Well, there’s a Privacy setting in the System Preferences that will allow you to make sure that Tap Forms has permission to access your Contacts. But I don’t think this actually makes any difference for Tap Forms being able to import from Bento.
Do you have the 3.0 upgrade to Tap Forms? It should import the addresses and make them separate fields. It won’t add them to the custom layout though, but you should see them on the Default Layout.
Thanks,
Brendan

bigcaatParticipantYes, I have 3.0. I just bought it a few weeks ago. I just checked in Bento and where I input the addresses in Bento is actually connected to my apple contacts and changes when I change it in Bento. I did check that box in the privacy of System Preferences, but it still didn’t import my contact info from Bento, and I just don’t understand why none of the contact info came in or why it didn’t ask me this time. It asked me once, and that was it. That why I wondered it I need to re-install (or set everything to default, but I can’t find a setting for that). Does it import all fields from both overview and details? It seems like the contact info is the only thing that’s missing.

bigcaatParticipantOne more thing, I believe in setting up Bento, I used their pre-made fields for contacts: “email address list” “phone number list” and “address list.” It looks like maybe those are the only things that are missing, even in the default layout. I have to look a little closer, but I *think* everything else is there.

bigcaatParticipantIf I export to numbers, the contact info is there. Just not when I import the Bento template.

bigcaatParticipantFWIW, I’m on Mavericks. 10.9.5. I am not synced to any other devices.

BrendanKeymasterHi Caat,
What I added in Tap Forms 3.0 was the ability to import the Address and Address List type fields from Bento. Although it will only import one address from an Address List field. Tap Forms will split them out into separate fields. Kind of like how when you export your library in Bento to a CSV file, it will expand the addresses into their own columns.
Thanks,
Brendan

bigcaatParticipantOk. I’m not getting any. It’s simply not importing them. How do I fix this problem? Should I uninstall and reinstall from scratch? I have over 500 entries. I can’t do it by hand.

BrendanKeymasterHi Caat,
Would you be able to send me a sample so that I can import and do some tests?
Email to support@tapforms.com
Thanks,
Brendan

bigcaatParticipantYou mean sample of my Bento Template export? It’s over 50 gigs. Is there a way of exporting just a few contacts in template form for a sample? I’ve looked for ways to do that but couldn’t find it.
Also, if I delete the form and try to re-import, will it delete all the associated files? (i.e.; photos, mp3, etc. I can’t test a re-import until I trash that import because of the size. It would be eating too much space on my hard drive.)

LeoParticipantHi Caat,
do a search or use a filter and do the export.

bigcaatParticipantI don’t know what that means, Leo. I created one with just a few contacts and sent that. Meanwhile, I trashed the previous import, I made sure the address fields were in both Overview and Details in Bento and I tried again. No luck. It appears to import everything … even things I haven’t actually put in my template, but are just options … EXCEPT … contact info: address, email, phone. These are the 3 things that are connected to Apple Contacts directly. Even though I set it in sys prefs to allow access to my contacts.
I feel like I should just uninstall and start from scratch. I just want to know that once I trash the app, it will be available for me to download again, from the app store, without having to pay again.
(And, FWIW, the associated files were not deleted when I deleted the form. I had to do that individually by going into the database, which was a real pain because I had started another form (associated files all reside together) from which there were things I didn’t want to trash. That’s a problem. We should at least have an option of deleting the associated files (i.e. photos, mp3s, etc) for that form when we delete the form. That crap can chew up an awful lot of disk space.)

BrendanKeymasterCaat, I imported your test file and was able to import your addresses with a few modifications to the Import Bento Template code. It’ll support it in the next update.
Tap Forms is supposed to delete the associated files when you delete a form as it goes through all of the fields first, then deletes all of the associated files for those fields. I’ll have to do some tests on that. Perhaps I broke something in that area at some point.
Thank,
Brendan

bigcaatParticipantThanks for looking into that. And thanks for you help.
