I’ve forgotten my encryption key (not used for many months) and despite numerous attempts I cannot recall or reconstruct what I set it to. On the one hand I’m extremely pleased that the sensitive data I’ve locked is inaccessible, on the other it’s annoying I can’t access it!!
My question is confirmation on how to reset the encryption key. Do I have to uninstall and re-install? I’m reconciled to losing the locked data as I can input that back in, but can I retain my unlocked data and lists by exporting and importing or backing up and restoring?
Thanks in advance,
jberri
Hello jberri,
My apologies for the late reply. I would recommend backing up your data using SyncDocs. Then you will probably need to uninstall and restore. Then you’ll have to reset your encryption key with a new value. But unfortunately you won’t be able to see your old data. It will just appear as garbage characters. You can then delete the fields in the forms that are encrypted and then re-create them again.
Please see my FAQ on how to do a backup at https://www.tapforms.com/support
Restoring is the same thing as backing up, just in reverse.
Good luck,
Brendan
