Chris KnightParticipantI clicked the icon to display the tab order in a custom layout. Little boxes appeared on all the fields with zeros in them as I had not yet edited the tab order of anything. I then clicked on one and what appeared to be an edit box appeared and I entered a number in it. I repeated this for several others until I noticed that the none of the numbers I entered had changed anything – they were all still zeros. If an edit box won’t allow me to edit something, then why display it? If there is something I have to do first to be able to edit the tab order via these boxes then a helpful error message would be nice. Something that would say something like “you must first do enable editing of the tab order in the {insert location here} before using these cool edit boxes to edit the tab order”.
I opened the Layers tab and made an edit to one field there and it worked but, it turned off the display tab order even though the icon is still “blue” indicating it is active. I can click all I want now on that icon and it will change colors but it won’t show the tab order. If I click the multi-column view and then the single-column view the show tab order button starts to work again.
I would be really nice to be able to actually edit the tab order via the text boxes that appear when the tab order indicator is clicked. Trying to edit the tab order from the layers list is a pain since other that dragging each item in the list around it is not resortable and the list is a mess in regards to order and I’ve a lot of labels and fields in the list (over eighty) and finding each field is pain.
To verify it was not my form layout I went into the included My Movie Library and selected the Movie Details layout and tried to turn on the tab order via the icon. That didn’t work so I clicked multi-column view then single-column view and then the show tab order icon worked again. Though, I still can’t edit the tab order via the edit boxes that appear when I click the tab order indicator.
I am sure the icon not working is a bug but is the non-editable text boxes by design or a bug? If it is by design, I would like to put in a feature request that the tab order be editable with those edit boxes because it would sure make it easier than the layers tab which is in the order of creation by default and not in the order the field is actually in on the form much less how a useful tab order would flow so using it with 80+ fields in no logical relation to the layout order is a pain to work with. However, the displayed tab order boxes are on just the fields and just looking at them it is obvious how they should be numbered to tab through the data entry efficiently and easily.
Thank you kindly,

BrendanKeymasterAfter you type in a number into one of the little popover views, press the Return key to accept the value you typed in. That should solve that problem at least.

Chris KnightParticipantAh, the return key! I’m embarrassed to admit that should have been obvious try.
Thank you!
