Is there a way to change the background color of the Default Layout?

    Hi Jim,

I’m sorry there isn’t. Only custom layouts can have their background colours changed.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

Ok. If I may, I’d like to request that for the next major upgrade. The white background is hard on my eyes.

I’m working on an update that will allow the white background to go full dark when in Dark Mode.

Do you use your Mac in Dark Mode mostly?

Yes, I use Dark Mode exclusively, unless an app doesn’t support it. I find that Dark Mode is much easier on my eyes.

Happy to hear that an update is planned! Thanks!

The update that supports that won’t be out for a long while. It’ll be contained in a bigger upgrade that will take me many months to complete.

This is a pretty old thread, but I still wanted to drop my two-cents. Would love to see this – full dark mode for the default layout.

    Hi Drew,

Full dark mode is coming for the Default Layout (and all the rest of the app of course).

    Here’s a preview screenshot.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    “Full dark mode is coming”

Great. That’s something I’ve really been missing in my very short trial run of Tap Forms 5 that I started yesterday.

Oh wow, my screenshot was from more than a year ago. And I’m still working on the new version! Not ready to release just yet. But getting closer.

I know your saying you are updating, can you add a way to change the ‘Link To Form’ back colour & text as at the moment one can’t?

Any idea when we’ll get full dark mode please?

    Regards

    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the feature request. You can change the font used for Link to Form fields, but not the font colour at the moment. There’s a lot of potential configuration that could occur on a Link to Form or Table field such as header colours, fonts, styles, borders, background, and so on. A bit of a big project.

Full dark mode is coming. Just not quite finished the new version. Sorry for the delay.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

    Hi Brendan,

No rush on my part now, my idea was to move permanently move over to the MAC, however after just a couple of months I can’t, it’s just to limited to me, the Finder has millions of mac-users saying, “It’s not been updated for over 2 decades now, tried other mac file explorers but it’s all drag&drop I hate drag&drop. (always get’s one in trouble and deleting files I did not want to do)!!! I miss windows Directory Opus to much..

I have some programming experience on windows, I wrote my own database application for windows only, I miss using it only after a month!

I tried moving over to Mac over a decade ago around (2015) and it’s not changed to me a decade later (2025).

My MacBook M4 Max is fast, however I need to install 10 apps to start at login just to use it, I’ll keep my MacBook to play around with it now & then, but the end of the day I thought it would be better than MS Windows, but to me Windows 11 has a lot more going for it…

TopForms is the best Mac database of this kind I came across and I’ll keep popping back to check out your updates, keep up the GREAT work your doing.

    Regards

    Kevin

Yes, Drag and Drop is a big part of the Finder. Always has been. However, in recent years they did add a lot of ways of navigating the Finder using the keyboard only if that’s what you prefer. You can cut, copy, and paste files from one folder to another, navigate the file system with the arrow keys, and so on.

    Hi Brendan,

‘Drag and Drop is a big part of the Finder’ & don’t forget that shortcut key you have not use for a while (seems like millions).
Working with millions off photo files, with keyboard is a big fat NO!

This is where ‘Directory Opus (Windows only by GPSoftware who says it’s not coming to Mac)’ comes in.
(I’m thinking out loud here, but Apple might not even let Directory Opus be on their store as it does a lot & I mean a lot Apple may not like). customize your own toolbars & put them anywhere is just a scratch what you can do, assign own commands, scrips to buttons & much, much more than any Mac app explorer can do etc.

This is why millions of windows users won’t even try Mac; we all have a mouse/trackball with multi buttons these days and we all use the them.

Why Mac programmers make apps to show shortcuts is unreal, they should be making apps like Windows ‘Quick Access Popup’ and it’s free now, (need to quickly take a screen-shot or sticky note but can’t remember the shortcuts, press that third mouse button bring up a custom-made popup menu, now just select ‘Screen-Shot’, ‘New Note’ or even ‘Colour-picker’ etc.

I setup my mouse with all custom popup menus on Mac & Windows (app on mac is not dark mode & they are not updating) i.e.
Right-scroll click brings up a popup-menu where your mouse is and you can select a menu item to (run apps, send system hotkeys, run scrips etc., Left-scroll click another menu. Middle mouse clicks another menu. Third button click another menu etc.
I don’t even use the Mac-Dock or Windows task-bar auto-hide them; another mouse button shows all running apps & desktops for me to select. Ho & another menu away to go to any URL.

The Biggers reason for me anyway is that Mac applications just don’t have enough options or app-plugin than Windows.

Stream Deck plugins half available for the Mac, but on Windows hundreds of them.

Anyway, that was just two apps, Ho, then there’s MS power-toys lol, once one has these apps setup you just won’t believe how you got anything done & no going back-to the 90s. Install Windows and these three apps to start on login! (Not 20, like on Mac).

Sorry to go on & on, I just can’t believe in last decade or two all Apple has done is ‘they did add a lot of ways of navigating the Finder using the keyboard?’
When the whole idea of any desktop/laptop OS is point & click since 1985. Apple it’s a desktop/laptop not an iPhone! (MS Windows I’m back).

Again, Tap Forms Organizer is a great Mac app.

    Kevin
