John McArthurParticipantHi,
I have attempted (for the last 2hrs!) to load up CouchDB without success.
I have scrolled through various websites and attempted various ‘solutions’ but I cannot get past the initial server connection…’Cannot connect to the server’ – 127.0.0.1:5984/…
The error page is shown, followed by many further attempts by the browser to connect, with the same result. I have to reboot the Mac to get rid of the looping renewed attempts.
One site said to add MacPorts & Xcode but not sure how these contribute to the install.
Any help would be extremely grateful as you probably can tell this is all new to me. :-)

Daniel LeuParticipantDid you try to connect to the server from the terminal? https://docs.couchdb.org/en/stable/intro/curl.html

John McArthurParticipantHi Daniel,
Attempted connection to server using Terminal but same error message. I took off Firewall & Bitdefender but still couldn’t connect.

Daniel LeuParticipantHi John, a consistent error is kind of good. You’re running CouchDB on your local machine, right? Otherwise I guess the IP address would be different.

John McArthurParticipantHi Daniel,
Yes, however if possible I would like to have it run on my NAS box. I noticed you mentioned in a different post that you had achieved that? My goal is to have my Tapforms DB in a location that is accessible by 2 different MACs. Access would only be from these 2 MACs, no access outside the LAN is required. Could that be possible and have the DB on the NAS?
I attempted the ‘nearby’ option but this didn’t appear very resilient and access to the DB occasionally resulted in valid data being overwritten due to sync problems.

Will BlumeParticipantI had CouchDB running on my MacStudio under Monterey last night, now today it’s broken. Does anyone recommend a particular version of CouchDB for the above?
Thanks.

Will BlumeParticipantIn the menubar, CouchDB has a couple of items:
“Launch Admin Console at Start” — which is always checked, can’t be unchecked, so it always does.
“Automatically Start at Login” — not checked, can’t be checked, so doesn’t.
How would you get all this to recover from a restart? No wonder I can’t get it to work after the one time it did last night. It responds to the basic “curl” query above. Lots of “can’t connect” – “Error sending to server.: Invalid attachment data for icon, 400” etc.
Thanks…

Daniel LeuParticipantHi John, I’ve CouchDB running on my QNAP NAS. I installed the package two different ways. 1) as an app on the box and 2) in a container. I like the container approach as it isolates the installation a bit more and makes it bit less NAS dependent. You never now what happens in the future….
What NAS do you have?

John McArthurParticipantHi Daniel,
I have a Synology DS414 – V7.1.1.

John McArthurParticipantJust attempted to use MacPorts package manager to install CouchDB from their website to see if that corrected the Server Connection issue. Exact same problem. I concede, not meant to be.
