TeamSDAParticipantHello Brendan… I am considering moving to TapForms 5 and curious if a few things have made it into the latest version?
- Is it now possible to have a field on one form that is related to a field on another form.
- Is it now possible to use a calculation field on the second form so I can do calculations with the relational data?
- Thirdly is it now possible to pull the totals from tables into a another field, either on the current form or another form?
- In a past forum post you had mentioned an idea for creating dynamic Link to Forms based on properties from the parent and the child. Kind of like being able to attach a Saved Search to a Link to Form. So rather than having to manually select records to link to a parent form, the dynamic link type would do it for you based on some value that’s common between the parent record and the child records. is this now available?
- Does table styling now include header label text, totals text as well as the ability to style the tables outer border?
Kind Regards,
Dave

BrendanKeymasterHi Dave,
I’m sorry to say that I have not implemented any of the above in Tap Forms 5.

TeamSDAParticipantHi Brendan… While I wish the features I listed were available in this version, TapForms 5 looks to be a fine step forward. I only request the above features as I use TapForms as part of a Professional Project management tool. Thanks for all the work you do in making this the fine product it is today.
Kind Regards,

BrendanKeymasterHi Dave,
Well, there are a couple of things that are now implemented from your wish list.
1. Is it now possible to use a calculation field on the second form so I can do calculations with the relational data?
Yes. In both directions. You can have a Calculation field which generates the Total/Avg/Min/Max for a related one-to-many or many-to-many form for a specified field. And going the other way, a Child form’s Calculation field can reference its parent form’s fields.
2. Thirdly is it now possible to pull the totals from tables into a another field, either on the current form or another form?
See above :) but not for the current form. Only for the related form. That is a Calculation field’s formula can’t access its own aggregate Total/Avg/Min/Max value. But if it could, it would always be the same result for every record in that form anyway.

BrendanKeymasterHi Dave,
Just to let you know, dynamic link fields are now possible in Tap Forms 5.2.1.
There’s a new Link Type called Join which you can use for that. It will perform a match comparison between a field in a parent form and a field in a child form. Tap Forms will display all child records which have a field who’s value matches the value from the parent form’s field. You can specify which field from the Parent form matches which field from the Child form. Tap Forms will do a case insensitive exact match on the field values.

TeamSDAParticipantHello Brendan… Thank you so much for keeping me in the loop on this. Looks like everything on my list with the exception of table styling is now possible. Great job, your dedication to maturing this software for more professional applications is most appreciated.

BrendanKeymasterHi Dave,
And the table styling thing is also on my to-do list. It’s a bigger job than the others, so will probably take some time. Haven’t started it just yet and not exactly sure when I will, but it’s definitely something I’ve put a lot of thought into.
