I have struggled with the search in Tapforms for sometime. Here is an example:

Can anybody explain why search_1 below operates correctly while search_2 does not. The phrase “usa-rogue”  (in search_2) does not appear anywhere in the enclosed record (PDF enclosed). As such, it should not be returned in the list of search results. It is listed however (erroneously, it seems).

Is it not possible to use a “minus sign / dash” in a search?

There is even more confusion when you operate a search within a note type field – the rules (when using double quotes seem to change) from the main search.

Has anyone got definitive rules and how to search for these types of phrases?

    Thank you for your assistance.

I have a note from Brendan.

“The general search field will only do a begins with type search.

If you need to do a contains type search, you’ll need to click the filter button just to the left of the general Search field and build a search rule to find what you need.”

I don’t know if this will help???

The - means NOT. That is, find all records that contain usa, but NOT rogue.

However, the SQLite FTS search engine I use ignores punctuation, so it’s actually finding the occurrence of “use; rogue” that you have in your Note field.
