Temporary removal of Tap Forms from International Stores

Until Tap Forms becomes classified as a mass market encryption product, I have removed it from sale from everywhere except Canada and the United States. I apologize for this and hope to have it available for sale outside Canada and the US as soon as possible.

In the mean time, I have put Tap Forms on sale in Canada and the United States for a rank busting discount of 44% off and am now selling it for $4.99 USD/CAD. I will put it back to its regular price of $8.99 USD/CAD on Sunday evening, August 9th, 2009.

Thanks for your understanding and patience.

Just to give you something to look forward to, I have been hard at work on some great new features for the upcoming 1.8 update, including the following:

  • New location field type with integrated map view.
  • Horizontal swipes of records on edit record screen. Now you can swipe left or right to go to the next or previous record without having to go back to the list view.
  • Reduced memory consumption during file imports making it possible to import larger files.
  • New audio recording device look and feel.
  • Pause during recording session capability.
  • Note field no longer shows the keyboard by default hiding your content on iPhone 3.0.
  • Note field now works properly in landscape mode on iPhone 3.0.
  • Improved integration with iPhone 3.0 table cell styles.
  • New search engine makes finding records fast!
  • New email address field type. Tapping on the blue circle button next to an email address will bring up a new email compose window pre-addressed to the email displayed.
  • In-app emailing of single record, including photos and audio attachments.
  • In-app emailing of multiple records as a single CSV file attachment. No longer are the records strewn about in the body of the email.
  • In-app emailing for the "Tell a Friend" function. Makes it easy to tell all your friends about Tap Forms without having to re-launch Tap Forms when you've finished sending the email.
  • Lightened up the grey alternating row so it's not so contrasty.
  • Added a blank icon to the form "Select an Icon" screen so you can remove the form icon if you don't want one to appear next to a form. It will remove the icon altogether and free up some more space for the form name.
  • Improved look of record count on Forms screen. In iPhone 3.0, the font sizes were changed by one point so the number looked off centre.

Due to all the new iPhone OS 3.0 features I'm using, iPhone OS 3.0 will be required for this update. But that's ok isn't it? Everyone's already upgraded to 3.0, right?

Phew! Well, that's it for now. Oh, one more thing. I have setup a new forum that you can use to discuss usage of Tap Forms. I will monitor the forums daily and answer as much as I can. But if you happen to see a question there from another Tap Forms user, feel free to reply if you already know the answer to their question or issue.

Thanks!

Brendan

Higher price and lack of a lite version to test pushed me towards Bento. Looking at the list of list of functions again getting tempted. Will you everconsider having a lite version (limiting the number of data base and entry per database) with less encription for international store? I like to use it before I spend money on another database app for my iPod Touch

I am also working on a Lite version of Tap Forms that people will be able to try. I’m hoping to get it released along with my 1.8 update.

    Thanks!

Will there be another discount sale, when it is available again in other countries?

  4. admin says:

I usually have sales every now and again, but I don’t pre-announce sales. But I’m sure I will do something awesome for my international customers once it’s back up.

    Thanks!

so when 1.8 comes out can I upgrade? I have already purchased and I’m from asia.

  6. admin says:

Yes, you will be able to upgrade when I put it back up.

What date do you think Tap Forms 1.8 is back in the International Stores?

  8. admin says:

I submitted my documentation August 8th. I heard the wait can be 30 days. But I keep checking every day to see.

    Thanks,

    Brendan

  9. Admin says:

Actually I meant to say I submitted on August 4th. Had 8 in my head at the time since August is the 8th month. :)

Did I understand that right — the next update of Tap Forms for international customers will be stripped off AES? Will it even have encryption functionality anymore? Tap Forms is a great piece of software, hope to see an (fully eqipped) update soon.

    • Brendan says:

      Hello dmkrull,

No, that’s not correct. Tap Forms will not have its encryption stripped out for international customers. I’m just still waiting for my approval from the US government to be able to sell Tap Forms as is to international customers. I originally read that it was ok to sell internationally if you were only using the encryption technology built-in to the iPhone, which is what Tap Forms does.

But I recently found out that is not the case. So I took Tap Forms down from sale on the international stores and submitted all the required documentation to the US government. I’ve just been eagerly awaiting their reply since August 4th. I heard it can take anywhere from 25 to 40 days to get approval. Once I’ve received approval, I will immediately put Tap Forms back up for sale on the international app stores.

      Sorry for the inconvenience.

I have just re-posted Tap Forms to the international iTunes app stores. The version is still 1.7 and still includes the AES 256 bit encryption. I received my CCATS number from the US government today which allows me to sell Tap Forms outside the US and Canada.

Tap Forms 1.8 is undergoing a bit more beta testing before I am comfortable releasing it to the wild.

    Thanks for your patience!
