allow designer to restrict entries to the field’s assigned pick list.
only the pick list members would come up for entry (no keyboard).
this would save screen real estate and also prevent erroneous entries.
If this were implemented, pick lists would also be nice for number fields.

I agree. This should be a feature. I had planned this from the very beginning, but it didn’t work out that way. The way I implemented it I thought it would be more flexible as you can enter in whatever value you want or select from a pick list. I do want to implement something like you suggest, but I’m not sure if it will be an extension of pick lists or the implementation of a relationship field type. That would allow you to use a different form’s records as your pick list.
