James NelsonParticipantBeen using tapforms daily for the last year as my warehouse database software. I have built my own custom layouts and so far everything has been good.
As I am progressing in logging inventory, I’m finding that I have way too many fields per page. Some might only need info for 2 or 3 pallets, while others need 20 or 30 fields.
Was wondering if there is a way to set-up a table that allows you to keep the footprint small, but expand on an as needed basis. I know filemaker does this, but we are a small company and the investment of time and finances is out of reach for us now.
Below is a screen shot of filemaker and of what I am currently doing. Not sure if I’m wording this correctly so I figured the photos would help.
Thanks

BrendanKeymasterHi James,
In Tap Forms you could accomplish something like that using a Link to Form field. Basically you would have a separate form which contains just the few fields which compromise the repeated data that you want to capture. Then on your main form you would add a Link to Form field that links to that separate form. Then you could click on the + button beneath the table of linked records to create new entries.
See the chapter in the online user manual on Relationships.

James NelsonParticipantThanks Brendan
Thought about that, and pardon my ignorance, but say I have 1000 pallets in my warehouse and each pallet has 2 pieces on it, does that mean I willow now have 2000 entries?
Or does a linked form just act as a template for the field?

BrendanKeymasterA Linked Form is just a way of connecting one form to another. Each form has its own set of fields. So linking one form to another will give you a table of fields that represent the records from the form you’re linking to.
I guess it depends on how you setup your data. If the 2 pieces per pallet are just copies of the same thing maybe you can just have a Quantity field that says how many of that thing you have on the pallet. Then you would only need to have 1000 records.

James NelsonParticipantThanks Brendan
Been re-working this today and it will work just fine.
