Hey There,
Well, it's been an awful long time since I posted on my blog here. Sorry about that. Don't worry, I haven't gone away, and I'm still actively working on Tap Forms.
Currently I'm working on Tap Forms for iPad. It's taking a lot longer than I had hoped because there are a lot of new ways of interacting with an iPad app that's different than the iPhone version. I didn't want to just make Tap Forms work and look the exact same way it does on the iPhone. So I am having to write a lot of new code to make it work "the iPad way".
But while I've been working on Tap Forms for iPad, I've managed to fix a few bugs and make some improvements to the iPhone version.
So what's new in Tap Forms 1.9.7?
- Dropbox integration (see www.dropbox.com for details on that). Now you can access files you have in your Dropbox account. This requires the full version of Tap Forms or upgrading from the Lite version to the Full version.
- Improved memory usage during selection of photos from the photo library
- Photo and audio file names now are exported in the CSV file.
- To make room for the Dropbox button on the Files tab, I moved the File Settings button to the Tools tab (where it belongs).
- Added default values for many of the field types. That means you can setup a form to automatically set a field to a specific value at the time the record is created.
- Added number formatters for the Number field type. The included number formatters are: None, Currency, Decimal, Percentage, and Spell out (e.g. twenty-three). Note, the currency number formatter takes on the formatting and currency of the iPhone's region settings.
- Moved the field encryption and field mask settings to a new "Field Options" screen off the Field Edit screen. This was to accommodate the new number formatter and default value field options.
- Fixed crash when selecting a contact.
Well, that's it for now. I think that's a pretty good set of updates for 1.9.7. I hope you enjoy the new features.
I am aiming to not create any new features until I get the iPad version out the door. Sometimes I think "I'll just add that one new thing to the app and release an update". Or a customer will ask for a feature and I think "hey, that won't take long so I'll just add it", but then I end up adding a bunch of things and it ends up taking a couple of months to get them done.
One thing is for sure, I love working on Tap Forms and I love interacting with my customers. So keep the comments and feedback coming. And if you have a few spare moments, please submit a review for Tap Forms. Here's a link to the iTunes review page for Tap Forms. I'd really appreciate it!
Until next time....
Brendan
I have an iPad – Tapforms does NOT look great when blown up to over twice it’s native size, but that’s hardly your fault – even so I’m eagerly waiting for the iPad version. That said, in the meantime I still continue to use Tapforms for the iPodPhone since it’s one of the few apps I consider to be utterly indispensable, and one I recommend to all my friends.
Amusingly it’s even caught the attention of one friend who is now a big fan… but doesn’t have any hardware to run it! He just likes the feature set, UI and attention to the user base you have.
Hello Cuproastes,
That’s great to hear! Thanks! I hope your friend manages to get an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad sometime soon. There’s so many cool apps out there (Tap Forms being one of them!) that I’d be hard pressed to imagine life without some of them!
Currently I’m addicted to Angry Birds :-)
Thanks again,
Brendan
