Today at about 1:25 pm MST, I submitted Tap Forms 1.7 to Apple for App Store approval. If nothing goes wrong with the approval process, it should take about 7 days for approval. At least that's the general consensus these days. But as with all things App Store, it can be quicker than that or longer than that. There are quite a few improvements made to Tap Forms 1.7 so it might take Apple a little longer to approve it. We'll see. Crossing my fingers!
Here's what's going to be in the "What's New In This Version" section in iTunes when it's approved:
- Improved list view lets you view more than the first field in a form (up to 3 fields if first field is a photo)
- Added 3 levels of sorting
- Can now group records by specified field
- Added field level AES 256 bit encryption using built-in iPhone OS security framework
- Switchable default database language
- Localizations now include German, French, Dutch, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese (excluding default database), Spanish, Italian, and English
- 50 additional form icons (150 in total)
- General performance improvements
- Voice memo recording on iPod touch (2nd generation only)
- Can now choose delimiter for import and export (comma, semi-colon, tab, pipe)
- Built-in web browser now has option for "Open in Safari"
- Variety of date formats supported for import and export
- Number field +/- button added so you can enter negative numbers
- Added a combined Date & Time field
Thanks for all your patience and understanding during this rather long development time. I hope to bring the next updates out quicker than this.
A special thanks to all the people who volunteered their time and effort in beta testing and translating Tap Forms to their native languages.

One more thing.... Tap Forms 1.7 will require iPhone OS 2.2 as a minimum. So if you haven't upgraded now, it's probably time to do so if you want to have access to all these great new features. Unless I have to do any emergency deployments for any bugs that may be found in version 1.7, I will be starting to work on iPhone OS 3.0 specific features for any future releases.
Here are a couple more screenshot teasers:
Notice the field grouping on the right screenshot
wow. looks very good.
its time to delete the other database apps from my iPhone.
1.7 supports indexing at the right side, for japanese yet?
Yes, it supports indexing on the right side for all languages now. However, there is a sorting issue I believe when Japanese characters are mixed with English characters in the index. Since I’m just using standard ‘order by’ statements in the SQL to generate that list, I’m not sure exactly what might be causing it. I don’t see the problem in English. We’ll see what happens when more Japanese users get their hands on it. I only have 1 Japanese beta tester at the moment.
I wonder… what’s taking so long for app-store approval?? Have you heard back from them at all?
Good question. Apple works in mysterious ways and there’s no way to know when you app will be approved. I’ve been checking multiple times per day. As soon as it’s released I’ll write another blog post about it and of course you’ll see it in your Updates in the App Store on your device.
