Somehow the arrow clicked on “Delete Form” and I’ve lost everything.

I have most of my data on my iPhone, but when I select on my phone “Export Tap Forms Archive”, it seems to work, but I can’t find the archive anywhere.  Not by using “Files app”, nor in my Dropbox areas in my iPhone.  Same with saving “Export Records”, can’t find the CSV file.

Where are those files so I can email them to my laptop?

As soon as I activate a connection to the wifi, I will probably lose all my data on my iPhone also.

How do I recover from this?  I imported on my laptop the most recent “Archive” and that worked, but the difference between the iPhone Form and the laptop form is 50 records, so what will happen when I establish communications between the two?  Will the sync add 50 records to my laptop, or delete 50 records from my laptop?

In the menubar, CouchDB has a couple of items:

“Launch Admin Console at Start”  — which is always checked, can’t be unchecked, so it always does.

“Automatically Start at Login”   —  not checked, can’t be checked, so doesn’t.

How would you get all this to recover from a restart?  No wonder I can’t get it to work after the one time it did last night.  It responds to the basic “curl” query above.  Lots of “can’t connect” – “Error sending to server.: Invalid attachment data for icon, 400”  etc.

    Thanks…

Thank you. I have a backup from the day before which is fine.

I guess although about 45 minutes had passed, the sync was not completed.

From a previous backup I used Export Forms Template and then imported one of my custom forms into the damaged file. The list of records magically appeared, and I could see the records in the file.

I also did use Recover Deleted Items and got some missing records.

Can you check the Recover Deleted Items screen in Tap Forms Mac to see if you can restore any of your forms?

Alternatively, do you have a recent backup you can restore to?

    I’m so sorry this happened.

I’m glad you were able to recover the fields.

I’m not sure about your Source field though.

Did you ever export a Tap Forms Archive or a Tap Forms Form template (.tff) file? If so, you can import that into your document and Tap Forms will re-create those for you.

Done! The “domains” are back!! And accordingly the Saved Searches are functional again.

At first, I had the wheel of death spinning, but I let it go and eventually the field was recovered.

Actually, there were two fields missing…

Thanks very much for your reply, Brendan.

I’ll try the recovering function without further ado.

So you don’t think the file is corrupted?

Sorry, I missed seeing your post.

Yes, try the Recover Deleted items function from the File menu. Find your field. Select it, then click the Recover button.

When it’s been recovered, quit Tap Forms and re-launch it.

You should see your field restored and the Saved Searches should work again.

As long as you didn’t do anything else such as compacting the database, which would purge the deleted field.

Hello! It’s a disaster, I broke almost everything… When I closed my database after hours of adding Saved Searches, TapForms freezed. So I forced it to quit, and then… one the fields had altogether disappeared. It’s the field Domaine, which I created in order to save searches. As a result, all the searches I had saved and neatly organized into files and subfiles are still there, but they’re empty!! The synced version I have one the iPhone is intact. I’ve backed it up just in case, but oddly the copy weighs only 196,5 megabytes, whereas the original is 2 gigabytes. I’m not sure whether it’s trustworthy. Unfortunately, I have no other recent version. What should I do, then? Try to replace the corrupt (?) file on the Mac by the clean (?) version from the iPhone? Or is there a way I can recover just the lost “Domaine” field and my Saved searches reappear? I saw it was possible to Recover deleted items (Files menu): it this the solution?

My fear is that the clean iOS version of the database will be replaced by the MacOs version through sync, so for the time being I won’t touch anything anymore…

I don’t know if it’s safe to send the iOS version to the Mac, either.

What is currently the most reliable sync method for Tapforms between a mac and an iPhone – in terms of minimizing possible data loss?

    • Local wifi is fine – I don’t need it to be remote
    • A reasonable cost is OK (does not need to be free)
    • Setting up additional software wouldn’t be my preference, unless it’s a clear frontrunner

Background: Twice, just after sync between Macs or iPhone / iPad (using iCloud) I’ve noticed unexplained data loss. Just this week 5 fields mysteriously disappeared. Fortunately I noticed, and was able to use the “recover deleted items” function and got them back. Although most of my use is on my office mac, I like the ability to update data in the field with my iPhone (especially GPS and photographs). I do make backups, but I’d prefer not to have to keep checking for vanished data.

A secondary question – If I move from iCloud Sync to some other method, how do I do this?

    Thanks for the reply.
1 – Re: warning for deleted record. I can’t find that setting in TF. In TG, There is no “Preferences/Settings”. There is a Top Menu – “Tap Froms Mac 5″/Settings” window but I don’t see that warning button there.
I looked at OSX Ventura Menu “Apple/System Settings/Notifications/Tap Forms Mac/ Allow Notifications”. Is that the button you are referring to? I tried it out, and that does the job. I didn’t know that would turn off that notification and I did turn it off because many programs notify me to death. Next time give a reasonable location for the answer.

    2. Re: restoring a record in a Form. I feel like I’m about to juggle with eggs and if I get something wrong there will be a disaster that isn’t recoverable.
Could you please provide directions, not in sentence form, but itemized procedure format. It is so complicated I could easily lose everything.
    – Since this is such an important part of the program, I’m surprised you don’t have it laid out already for people.

The record I lost isn’t that important, but when I do lose something (it will happen eventually) as I have in the past with my old database. Files get corrupted, or an accident happens. I need to have experience with this before the emergency occurs.

    Thanks.

If the form didn’t appear in the Recover Deleted Items function, you would need to re-import a .tfarc file that you had previously made. However, I’m guessing you probably don’t have one of those.

The Recover Deleted Items function will not work if you had compacted the database after the delete. That may be why it didn’t show up there.

But if you’d like to email me a backup of your whole document, I can poke around inside the database to see if there’s anything recoverable.

I want to restore one Form in my “My Forms” document that contains 67 Forms.

Mac desktop, on my way to use Advanced Find and Replace, my mouse activated “Delete”. I don’t know which record got deleted. I tried “File/Recover Deleted Items”, but nothing was on the list (for just that Form or all Forms?).

From the manual it sounds like the only thing that can be “restored” is the “My Forms” that holds all 67 Forms. That won’t do.

What happens if I just want 1 Form, or 1 record from 1 Form restored?

Data “disappeared” on tap forms database. I have an address list database. On the multi-column view, at one point all of the data in one column disappeared from the display. However, it still showed when viewing the list view. As I was trying to figure out what happened, that same data started disappearing from the list view as well. I did not intentionally delete anything, not did I delete that field in the multi-column view. The column heading was still appearing, but not the data.

I turned off the syncing with my other computer and phones, but don’t know if it is a display issue only or if there is something more wrong. i.e., What did I possibly do and what can I do to recover it.

I do have older backups of our data, but now with our most recent, fairly extensive, edits.

Thank you VERY MUCH for any help.

    Larry
